An informal meeting of the Kingswells Community Council (KCC) was held on Sunday 19th April at the Duck Pond, following members’ participation in the Kingswells litter pick earlier that morning. Councillor Kate Blake was also in attendance.

KCC members reviewed plans to enhance the pond area, with a focus on making it safe and environmentally friendly. Proposed improvements include planting native shrubs and wildflowers to support biodiversity, repairing the pontoon, installing a new bench, and adding bird boxes and bee hotels built by the Kingswells Scouts. Solar powered LED lighting for the pontoon and general tidying of the surrounding area are also planned.

The community pond improvement day, originally scheduled for Sunday 3rd May, has been postponed until further notice. This will allow time to consider additional works, including repairs to the pontoon, the bridge and the hazardous steps leading down to the pond.

Issues were raised regarding lamppost circuitry boards not being properly secured, which may present a risk and require attention. Concerns were also raised following the recent receipt of an invoice for last year’s Christmas light lampposts, with the high cost noted.

There was strong opposition to the use of glyphosate in Kingswells. KCC is calling on Aberdeen City Council to provide advance notice of any planned spraying so that residents can be kept informed.

KCC also discussed its involvement in the upcoming school May Fair, highlighting an opportunity to engage with residents and support community activities.

KCC remains committed to improving local amenities while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of residents. Further updates will be shared as plans progress.
