Churches
Kingswells, is home to several churches that reflect its historical and cultural heritage.
Kingswells Church of Scotland
Located at 21 Old Skene Road, Kingswells Church of Scotland is a Category C listed building constructed in 1857–58. Designed in a Gothic style by the Hay brothers of Liverpool, it features boulder rubble walls, a bellcote, and a distinctive porch. Originally established as a Free Church, it has served the local community for over a century. However, due to a shortage of ministers and the need to consolidate resources, the Church of Scotland has earmarked it for closure as part of a broader restructuring plan in Aberdeen .
Kingswells Episcopal Church
Kingswells also hosts a Scottish Episcopal Church, part of the Diocese of Aberdeen and Orkney. While specific details about its architecture and history are limited, it continues to serve the spiritual needs of the local Episcopal community .
Quaker Heritage
The village has historical ties to the Quaker movement, notably through Alexander Jaffray, a 17th-century laird of Kingswells who converted to Quakerism. His estate included a Quaker burial ground, which still exists today, enclosed by a dry stone wall. Though there are no gravestones, a plaque commemorates those interred there .
These churches and historical sites highlight Kingswells’ rich religious heritage and its role in the broader ecclesiastical history of the Aberdeen area.
