Community Council held a meeting on Sunday 18 October 2026. The meeting focused on progressing community initiatives, addressing residents’ concerns and identifying priorities for the months ahead.
New members were formally welcomed to the Kingswells Community Council, and one was appointed as the new Treasurer, with a handover to be arranged with the outgoing Treasurer.
The position of Secretary remains vacant. Kingswells residents interested in joining the Community Council, particularly those willing to undertake the Secretary role, are encouraged to get in touch. Support will be available to anyone considering the position.
The Community Council reviewed its finances, banking arrangements and insurance provisions. Funding remains limited, with an annual allocation from Aberdeen City Council. Additional funding and local business sponsorship will be explored to support future community projects and events.
Plans are progressing for a new Kingswells Food Market, with the first event provisionally targeted for April 2027. Potentially held on the second Sunday of each month, bringing together local food producers and businesses. The Kingswells Park and Ride and Prime Four Business Park are being considered as possible locations. Discussions with Aberdeen City Council will continue regarding permissions and practical arrangements. Further updates will be shared as plans develop.
Arrangements for this year’s Christmas street lighting were discussed, including installation costs, storage, maintenance and insurance responsibilities.
A local business has kindly offered £200 towards this year’s costs and agreed to provide storage for the lights in future, helping reduce the financial burden on the Community Council. The possibility of local businesses sponsoring individual Christmas lights will also be explored for future years.
Members discussed the possibility of bringing back a festive Santas Slegh procession through Kingswells, inspired by Christmas traditions remembered by long-standing residents. The idea involves a decorated vehicle or trailer with Christmas lights and music travelling through the village, bringing some festive cheer to local families. This remains an early proposal, with further consideration needed regarding arrangements and participation. Community interest and support would be welcomed.
The Police Scotland quarterly report (June–August 2026) highlighted several incidents in Kingswells, alongside wider policing priorities. Speed enforcement took place in Kingswells during July, with officers addressing speeding and other road traffic offences, including drug driving. A theft of copper wiring valued at approximately £10,000 was reported near Prime Four Business Park. Two men were subsequently charged and appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court. An incident of wilful fire-raising was reported at Kingswells Primary School in June. No further damage occurred, and police enquiries were ongoing at the time of the report.
The Community Council has received correspondence from the Inspector responsible for the Bucksburn Community Policing Team, who has expressed an interest in attending a future meeting. An invitation will be extended to discuss local policing matters, community safety and residents’ concerns. Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity, dangerous driving and anti-social behaviour directly to Police Scotland.
Several residents have raised concerns about faulty street lighting across Kingswells village and the Prime Four area, particularly as the darker evenings approach. These concerns have been raised with local councillors, and the Community Council will continue to highlight outstanding issues. Residents are encouraged to report faulty street lights directly to Aberdeen City Council using its online reporting form, providing the lamp post number or exact location wherever possible. Individual reports are important in helping the Aberdeen City Council identify affected areas, prioritise repairs and maintain a record of outstanding faults.
Concerns were raised about snow clearance and the difficulties experienced by residents during last winter’s severe weather, particularly elderly and vulnerable members of the community. Aberdeen City Council prioritises main roads during severe weather, meaning residential streets may take longer to receive attention. The Community Council discussed encouraging neighbours to support one another, particularly those who may struggle with snow clearance, shopping or accessing essential services. Residents are also encouraged to consider applying for Aberdeen City Council’s community salt supplies where available.
Members discussed changing future meetings from Sundays to a weekday evening to improve attendance and accessibility. The next meeting is provisionally scheduled for Sunday 15 November 2026, although the date, time and location may change. Confirmation will be shared once arrangements are finalised.
Kingswells Community Council remains committed to representing residents, raising local concerns with Aberdeen City Council and supporting initiatives that benefit the wider community.
