The Kingswells Community Council meeting took place on Sunday, 19 July 2026, at the Kingswells Community Centre, to discuss community matters, ongoing projects, fundraising and future priorities.
KCC members noted apologies for absence and adopted the minutes from the last April meeting. Administrative updates were reviewed, including recent communications and the Kingswells Community Council’s current financial position. Councillor Kate Blake attended the meeting and provided updates on local matters affecting Kingswells.
The Kingswells Community Council announced that both the Treasurer and Secretary have stepped down after moving out of Kingswells. Kingswells Community Council thanked them for their commitment and service to the community. Kingswells Community Council is now actively looking for new members to join. Anyone interested in supporting their local community is encouraged to contact Kingswells Community Council by email at kingswellscommunitycouncil@gmail.com.
Members discussed the Kingswells Community Council’s financial position and noted there are currently insufficient funds to support this year’s Christmas street lights. Kingswells Community Council will explore a range of fundraising opportunities over the coming months to help raise funds for future festive lighting.
Kingswells Community Council received updates on several community projects. The Duck Pond pontoon has now been completed, providing a much-needed improvement to the area, and Kingswells Community Council welcomes all residents to visit. Further final enhancements are planned, including the installation of solar-powered lighting at the pontoon landing area and a new bench to improve the surrounding green space.
A new community noticeboard has been installed outside the Kingswells Community Centre, providing residents with an additional source of local information and updates. Minutes from this meeting will be pinned up shortly.
Kingswells Community Council continues to work with Aberdeen City Council on a number of environmental improvements. The KCC has asked Aberdeen City Council to adopt the large black planters throughout Kingswells, allowing Kingswells Community Council to plant seasonal flowers and install hanging baskets to enhance the village. KCC members also raised concerns about street lighting columns where access doors have been left open or cable covers have not been secured correctly, and Aberdeen City Council has been asked to investigate and carry out the necessary repairs. In addition, Kingswells Community Council is reporting damaged and worn signs across Kingswells for repair.
The KCC discussed the need for detailed mapping of adopted land within Kingswells using Aberdeen City Council’s Geographic Information System (GIS). Clarifying land ownership is essential for future funding applications to repair neglected pathways and improve public spaces, particularly where ownership of older areas of land remains unclear. Aberdeen City Council will be invited to attend a future meeting to explain the current position.
KCC members noted that one of the local playpark has recently been fenced off. No explanation has yet been provided to Kingswells Community Council regarding the closure.
No Police Report was received. However, Kingswells Community Council has been made aware on several occasions of reports of antisocial behaviour involving young people within the community. Kingswells Community Council stressed that this behaviour is unacceptable and encouraged residents to report any incidents directly to Police Scotland to ensure they are recorded and investigated.
Residents were advised that the Bucksburn swimming pool, a nearby public swimming pool to Kingswells, is open. KCC has been informed that Adventure Aberdeen is planning improvements to its green space, including the installation of a new football goal, with a date for the works yet to be confirmed.
The Council discussed current fundraising opportunities. It was announced the application to the Action Earth fund was unsuccessful. It was noted that this was not a reflection on the quality of the project, but rather because Action Earth have decided to prioritises the 20% most deprived areas identified by the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD), and Kingswells does not fall within this category.
