The second official meeting of the newly constituted Kingswells Community Council took place on Sunday, 17 August 2025. Proceedings followed a set agenda and commenced with a warm welcome from the Chair, along with apologies noted from those unable to attend.
The minutes of the previous meeting were formally approved. KCC roles and responsibilities were discussed and clarified to ensure the smooth conduct of council business. Agreement was also reached on a set of communication guidelines to improve the consistency and clarity of information shared with the community. Alongside this, it was confirmed that a dedicated KCC email account has been set up, and an additional email account will be created specifically for planning-related correspondence.
Financial matters were addressed. The Kingswells Community Council bank account has now been successfully opened, although insurance arrangements are still to be finalised.
A significant part of the meeting was dedicated to considering potential future projects and how available funding might be used. A review of relevant grants and funding streams was presented, highlighting possible sources of financial support. This work will be developed further, with applications to be prepared for the most suitable opportunities. One project already under application is the provision of a community garden shed, which would serve as a resource for local initiatives and events.
In addition, the KCC is exploring the introduction of a suggestion box for local residents, providing a convenient way for members of the community to share their concerns or proposals for future projects.
An update on recent planning applications affecting the Kingswells area was also provided. The Co-op has applied for planning permission to install replacement condensing and air-conditioning units, and to infill an existing doorway. Members agreed that these applications are unlikely to have any long-term impact on the wider community.
The proposed parking restrictions at Kingswood Drive were also discussed. However, the KCC must await further comment from Aberdeen City Council in September before responding.
The meeting concluded with a discussion on establishing communication with the police. It was agreed that an introductory email would be sent to inform the police of the re-formed KCC and to raise concerns about recent crime incidents. No monthly police report was received on this occasion.
Minutes of the meeting will be uploaded to the Kingswells website in due course.
