A HUGE Thank You to Our Amazing Duck Pond Volunteers! 🦆
What an incredible day at the Kingswells Duck Pond Restoration Event! A huge thank you to everyone who came along, put their wellies on and got stuck in, helping to make a real difference to this valued community space.
A special shout out to Rangers Rob and Jack from the Aberdeen City Council Countryside Ranger Service for leading the event and keeping everyone right throughout the day. Your guidance and expertise made the work both effective and enjoyable.
We’d also like to extend our sincere thanks to the Aberdeen University students who joined us and truly got stuck in.
Members of the Kingswells Community Council — Deborah, Ruth, Fennella and Dave — also joined in, contributing hands-on effort and community spirit. Thank you for your continued support in making Kingswells a better place for everyone.
And a thoughtful thank you to Iona Scott, who planted a beautiful Aspen tree on the far side of the duck pond, a lasting symbol of renewal and growth for this area.
Today’s event showed what can be achieved when the community comes together. With your help, we’ve taken a big step towards restoring and revitalising this natural space for local residents and wildlife. This is just the beginning of the improvements to the pond.
We’re already seeing fantastic early results today, the water flow has greatly improved, and the pond’s water level has increased. The mud around the banks is now rich with microorganisms that will nurture smaller aquatic life and help restore the surrounding ground. Once the rainy season and winter have passed, we will see the beauty of the pond return in full bloom next spring — a true reflection of today’s hard work and care.
Thank you all once again for your tremendous effort — that was real physical strength dredging out that pond!
