Three New Planning Applications For Kingswells.

Could a New Takeaway Be Coming to Kingswells?

A new planning application could bring fresh flavours to Kingswells, as the former Great Western Out of School Club may soon be transformed into a hot food takeaway.

The empty unit, located next to the Co-op in the Kingswells Village Centre, was previously listed for rent at £18,000 per year. Back in February, we posted about the vacancy on the Kingswells Facebook Page, hoping to attract interest and encourage new business to the area. Many locals shared their thoughts at the time, with suggestions ranging from a florist to a takeaway – and now, that wish might be coming true.

Bucksburn Business Ltd has submitted a proposal to Aberdeen City Council to change the building’s use from a non-residential institution (Class 10) to a takeaway (Sui Generis). The application (ref: 250425/DPP) was validated on 6 May 2025 and is currently under consideration.

Blueprints for the development show plans to overhaul the existing play area, replacing it with cooking facilities, an ice cream section, and a coffee machine – potentially creating a spot for locals to grab quick meals and sweet treats close to home.

While there’s no confirmed information yet on what kind of cuisine might be served or the proposed opening hours, the news has already sparked curiosity in the community.

The applicants may be hoping for a smoother approval process than others who’ve faced challenges with similar plans elsewhere in Aberdeen.

So, what do you think? Would you welcome a new takeaway in the heart of Kingswells? Let us know your views.
