Local businessman buys Kingswells business.

The family-run Ferryhill House Hotel, in Ferryhill, and the Fourmile House, in Kingswells, will change hands at the end of this month.

George Lyon has sold both facilities to local businessman, Allan Henderson, who already owns three city centre hostelries – No.10 Bar and Restaurant, McGinty’s Meal An’ Ale, and The Stag.

Mr Lyon ran both properties for more than a decade with his wife, Julie, who died last year.

The couple worked in the hotel and pub industry in the north-east for three decades.

Mr Lyon said: “Over the past 14 years, my family and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time running two of the north-east’s most popular establishments.

“However we feel it is now the right time to move on.

“I am extremely delighted that both businesses are being acquired by a well-established, local independent operator.

“I am sure the new owners will continue to provide a high level of service to customers. And I would like to wish them every success for the future.”

The new owner has said there will be no jobs affected by the sale, with all staff kept on at each of the venues.

Mr Henderson added: “My fellow directors and I are very happy to confirm that we have agreed to acquire the Ferryhill House Hotel and the Fourmile House at Kingswells.

“We currently operate three licensed premises in the city and we are pleased to be given the opportunity to add these two iconic venues to our portfolio.

“The Lyon family have established a great business and we are looking forward to building on these solid foundations.”

The purchase comes just months after No.10 was reopened following a £100,000 revamp.

Meanwhile, an historic city centre pub has applied for listed building consent.

The owners of the 19th-century Prince of Wales, in St Nicholas Lane, has proposed to change its sign, which hangs over the entrance.
