Police in Aberdeen are appealing for information after a sheep died during a horrific dog attack.

Two incidents have taken place in the Bucksburn and Kingswells areas of the city over the last month.

On both occasions, the sheep suffered injuries consistent with being bitten by a dog, and one attack left one sheep fatally wounded.

Local police officers have now encouraged anyone with information to get in touch, adding that the attacks caused “heartache” to the farmers involved.

The two sheep worrying incidents took place between July 2 and August 2.

A spokesman for the local force said: “Instances of sheep worrying cause a great amount of personal heartache and often substantial financial loss to farmers.

“Anyone exercising their dogs should make sure they keep their pets on a lead and under close control when walking near livestock.

“In any cases of sheep worrying, dog owners are liable to prosecution for failing to have control of their dog.”

As lockdown restrictions ease further, both police and farming unions have reminded anyone visiting rural areas to keep their dogs under control.

Last year alone, livestock attacks cost UK farmers £1.2 million.

Anyone with information on the Bucksburn and Kingswells sheep worrying incidents have been asked to call 101 quoting incident CF0173630820.

Alternatively people can call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
