Due To Low Passenger Numbers

First Aberdeen has announced the planned withdrawal of the X40 and 11 services from Kinsgwells.

Despite a concerted effort by First Aberdeen to encourage use of the services, patronage has been consistently low throughout the week and at weekends. The company said it can no longer sustain services that attract just a handful of customers on each journey.

The operator has published average patronage figures for Kingswells in the past 12 months:

    • Monday-Friday: Average 3.6 passengers per journey
    • Saturday: Average 3.8 passengers per journey
    • Sunday: Average 3.6 passengers per journey

First Aberdeen has now reluctantly decided to withdraw the services from the area due to considerable losses sustained on the route.

The company’s efforts to make the services viable included an extended period of consultation and simplification of the routes but these recent measures have failed to have any positive impact on customer uptake.

Relatively low patronage at the Kingswells Park and Ride and the downturn in the oil industry are among factors identified as having had an adverse effect. Kingswells Park & Ride site is also served by Stagecoach services X17 and X18.

First Aberdeen Commercial Manager, Daniel Laird, said: "We would like to thank those customers who have supported us on these routes and apologise for the inconvenience this will cause.

"Despite our efforts and commitment it has been impossible to sustain a viable service on the routes at this time.

"First Aberdeen is committed to keeping the routes under review and will respond positively to developments which may lead to viable services in the future."

A date for the withdrawal will be announced following consultation with the council and other key stakeholders.
