Car Club at Car Park n Ride told to move

Ban after complaints over noise at Kingswells park and ride

A CAR club has been banned from meeting at an Aberdeen car park over claims it has driven residents round the bend.

Stonehaven and District Motor Club has been told not to return to the park and ride site in Aberdeen’s Kingswells.

The Aberdeenshire group had changed their usual meeting place at Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre park and ride in Bridge of Don to the one at Kingswells.

But people living near the Aberdeen park and ride site complained about the noise.

Ian Cox, secretary of Kingswells Community Council, said a quiet afternoon in the garden had been impossible for residents living near the Aberdeen park and ride car park when the club there.

The Kingswells Community Council secretary said: “There was the acceleration of cars, screeching of brakes and there was rubber left on the surface. The noise was so bad, people couldn’t go out in their back gardens.”

But Tom Hynd, president of the Stonehaven and District Motor Club, said: “It’s unfair that we have been banned from the Kingswells car park.”

The Stonehaven and District Motor Club president said Aberdeen City Council “only received one complaint about it”.

While secretary at the Aberdeenshire car club Sue Hynd stressed all of Stonehaven and District Motor Club’s events are above board.

The Aberdeenshire car club secretary added that the community council had approved use of the site.

An Aberdeen City Council spokeswoman today confirmed the authority has decided the club can no longer use the car park after a number of complaints.
