Pupils at an Aberdeen school had an extra spring in their step today, thanks to Scotland's only professional basketball team.

Children at Kingswells Primary were put through their paces by members of the Glasgow Rocks as part of a healthy living campaign.

The Jump2It programme promotes an active lifestyle to schoolchildren.

The scheme also highlights the risks of poor diet, smoking and drug and alcohol abuse.

Sterling Davis, Glasgow Rocks player and coach, said: "We are delighted to be rolling out the Jump2It programme to kids from across Aberdeen and giving them a chance to experience the amazing fun that can be had through basketball."

Kingswell is one of eight Aberdeen schools participating in the programme, with Danestone, Fernielea, Forehill, Glashieburn, Hazlehead, Middleton Park and Stoneywood primaries.

Graeme Dale, Active Schools Aberdeen manager, said: "It is great to see a professional sports team taking a pro-active role in promoting healthy living and an active lifestyle at grassroots level.

"The programme has widened opportunities for sustained participation in sport by establishing new school basketball clubs, enhancing existing club structures, whilst motivating youngsters to get more involved in sport generally."
