Aberdeen City Council allows you to view or download your Household Waste Collection Calendar online.

Household Waste Collections

From Monday 17 May 2010 Aberdeen City Council introduced a New recycling and refuse collection service

Refuse containers are provided for the disposal of any household waste that cannot be reused or recycled. Please do not leave anything outside the container for collection.

If your waste was previously collected on a weekly basis this will now have changed to every fortnight.  Households affected will have received a booklet about the new service in the post.  Also included was a letter with a calendar on the back containing all your collection dates. You can also view or download your Household Waste Collection Calendar online.

If you use a black wheeled bin to dispose of your waste please ensure that it is placed on the kerbside by 7am on your designated collection day.

If you have a large item that cannot fit in the container provided please take it to one of the city’s 4  Recycling Centres for disposal or call the telephone number below for information about our  Special/Bulky Collections service.

We also offer an Assisted Collections service for residents who are unable to put their domestic street bin, garden waste bin or recycling box and bag out for collection.

How to use your wheeled bin

  • The new service came into operation on Monday 17 May.
  • Only the contents of the container will be emptied. The lid must be closed.
  • Excess refuse should be kept to the following week - Please do not place it by the side of the bin.
  • Don't forget to 'Get It Sorted' by making the best use of your local  Recycling Centres and  Recycling Points to Reduce Reuse and Recycle your household waste.
  • If you have bulky items you want to get rid of, you should continue to use special uplift arrangements
  • Please put your bin out on the pavement no later than 7am on the day of collection. As soon as possible after your bin has been emptied you should return it to your property. Please don't store your bin permanently on the pavement.
  • Your bin is meant for household rubbish. If there is enough space you can put garden rubbish in it. Where possible we encourage you to compost your garden rubbish.

Who is responsible for the wheeled bin?

The householder is responsible for the bin but it remains the property of the Council and should not be taken with you if you move house. Householders are advised to take appropriate steps to ensure the upkeep and security of their bin.

Can I have more than one wheeled bin?

A limit of one additional bin is available to residents who use the recycling or garden/food waste services available to their property if they are:

  • Households with five or more permanent residents
  • Households where one or more permanent residents suffers from a medical condition or disability that causes them to produce excess waste.

There is a delivery charge of £35 (incVAT) for each additional bin but a 50% discount is available for those on Council Tax Benefit or Housing Benefit. You will need to quote your reference number on the application form.

There is no delivery charge to those residents requiring an additional bin due to a medical condition or disability.

Contact the Waste Team on 08456 08 09 19 for your additional bin.

What if my wheeled bin is not suitable?

If you require a smaller bin, want to report a stolen or damaged bin or request assistance with moving your wheeled bin contact The Waste Team on 0845 608 0919

Is there any domestic waste I should not put in the bin?
