Same old story, trying to switch Broadband provder to Sky and keep getting told our line isn't compatible. Instead of getting into a long running argument with them I think we'd be easier going to BT. Just wondered what everyone's experiences with them were and if anyone has one of their TV receiver boxes - are they as good as Sky?

How difficult can it be for companies to provide Broadband with no hassles, I'm sure other people in the area must be connected with them already and you'd think after all this time the ISPs would have got their act together!

I did wonder when this problem would arise,I am with BTBroadband and my min contract period ends in August . I am thinking of changing ISP.
Where are you and when you talk of BT receiver box do you mean BT vision? I believe the problem with Sky is they have LLU at the exchange and if you get BB from the green cabinet you will not get the Sky BB

Stay with BT! I'm in Concraig Gardens and tried to change to Sky and as you said they told me the line wasn't compatible, after a month of waiting. I'm now trying to get back to BT.

I have stayed with BT and have upgraded from option 1 to 2 to get more usage allowance.
Just as a matter of interest where has all the chatter about broadband in kingswells gone,it seems since January 2007 when we eventually got it noone seems to talk about it anymore.

Hi Micksturbs, yes you're right it's all gone quiet...however as I just came to the end of my contract, which assume most others will be doing around this time, I see this raising its head again. It's taken me about 5 hours of my time in total on the phone back and forth to BT and Sky to get this sorted out. After being told I couldn't get BB from Sky I placed an order (again) with BT who unbelievably said I couldn't get it for the same reason i.e. it was incompatible. I wont go into all the conversations I've had but it appears that the ISP's still do not know about our 'Green Cabinets' including the BT Sales Teams. I did try and tell them about the cabinets but it seemed to go in one ear and out the other!!!!!!! The only reason this is now being processed is that I managed to get one of the 'BT Broadband Specialists' to read the BROADBAND4kingswells website, whom incidentally was telling me it was impossible to supply BB down part fibre optic part copper cable. Once he had a read of the the website he then spoke to his manager. This resulted in him saying that this is a known issue in the area and they would have to e-mail the 'engineering' team ( I assume BT wholesale) because this is a special case. So it appears you still cant get BB through the normal sales routes. I contacted OFCOM about it to try and get this message out to the ISP's.

The forum has gone quiet in recent months but we still get around 5 emails each month at the BB4KW and kingswells.com emails from existing (and future) residents asking about the state of broadband in Kingswells.

Given that we approaching the 2 year anniversary of the green cabinets it's disappointing to hear that the ISPs are still not aware of your unique broadband supply. Good to hear you weree successful Micksturbs. Hope your story can be of some help to others.

Wondering if someone can provide a definitivie answer to the question about the companies who install their own exchange equipment like sky and talk talk. Is anyone using them and obtaining a service through the green cabinets i.e. getting speeds of > 4Mbps? Its a question that I get asked a lot and I could never get a sensible answer when I approached these companies.
