I'm a resident of Derbeth Grange and am one of the lucky one's who's had broadband for a couple of years albeit at 512k, I'm currently with TalkTalk who "Upgraded" my line yesterday to what I was lead to believe was a connection to the remote DSLAM cabinet, however the "Upgrade" has reduced my connection speed to 256k which is virtually unuseable. I'm keen to get a second line just for broadband to connect to the remote cabinets but have just heard from my next door neighbour that BT have signed him up for a 12 month broadband contract on just 512k telling him there is no more capacity in the Cabinets! Having spoken to several people at BT nobody can tell me anything about the cabinets or that if I ordered a 2nd line where it will be connected, they're saying I'll have to pay for the line, sign up for 12 months broadband and then find out what speed i'm getting! Does anybody have a contact name or number for someone who can help me? Regards, Andy

You are unlikely to get on the street cabinet dslam’s with talk talk as this will cost them money. Talk talk have made use of a practice called local loop unbundling which means they install their own dslam in the exchange at westhill rather than paying for the use of BT’s.(this is why they can offer calls and broadband so cheaply) In order to connect to the talk talk dlsam you need a copper wire all the way to the exchange in Westhill.

I am in the newer (Wellsides) part of Kingswells and was advised that fibre optic cables were in place for the telephone lines. I now have Talk Talk BB and believe that was down to the on street cabinets.
