| Hi
Has anyone tried to sign up with BT brodband?
On their speedchecker page it says the line is supplied using a special fibre, engineer checks required etc etc but maybe an online order would work.
They're not the cheapest (£27 p/m 8 meg unlimited download) but they do provide a wireless hub and an XBox 360 wi-fi adapter free which over a year's contract brings the price down to a more acceptable level. And they're BT so if anyone can fix up a connection properly it should be them.
Any thoughts, comments appreciated.

| Bob - see on your marks thread.
Order has to be made manually and cannot go through the internet. An online order at the moment is almost certainly not going to work. You have to call them, ask for manual paper form for provision to go to BT Wholesale. It bypasses the computer order system. Graeme quoted the order form number for the one they need to use.
Good luck. |

| I too, tried to order through BT last Thursday. Didn't get any joy at all. Tried to explain our situation and the manual order thing and the woman thought I was mad. I do have ISDN though which also confuses things. The BT lady said she would put it through the normal automated system to see what happens.
By normal I assumed she meant wait till the day before, ring us up and then find out its been cancelled CAUSE THEY ARE STOOOOPID.
Anyway, I have a date of the 25th January. God knows what year.

| Just received an e-mail from Demon stating that they cannot progress my order due to an "incompatible product" on my line..
Phoned BT who gave me the following number 0800 1690934
Got through to an operator to discuss the problem - apparently a TAG on the line.
She checked my number and said "you still have TPON on the line"
I explained about the letter from Openreach and she went away to check again.
After 5 minutes she said "some lines in your area can get broadband but your one cannot" - and suggested I try again in a month!!!!
What a farce!!!
I have replied to Demon explaining the situation regarding the manual ordering process but to date none of the ISPs I have contacted are either willing or able (probably the former) to do this.
No doubt I will receive confirmation of this soon.
If anybody has any luck please let us know - any chance of resurrecting the wireless system?? |

| My ISP is Plusnet
I was unable to order through their automatic system on Thursday. However, it defaulted me to a Help & Support page where I as able to e-mail my order to the correct department. I was able to explain the TPON issue and that BT were now accepting orders. Later that day I updated my support request with information provided by Maddie.
On Friday I received an e-mail saying my order had been submitted. There was part of an internal message quoted - "Please place Manual CRF for this service. Customer is provided via TPON cable, but BT are accepting manual orders for this."
On Saturday, the message on the BT Line Checker for my number had changed. Can't remember exactly what it said but it implied something was happening order wise.
Am now awaiting activation date.

| Today I spoke to BTBroadband Service, they began by trying to explain to me why I had not been able to have broadband previously,I had to cut them short to tell them I already know all that! They went on to say that everything had now been sort, knew that as well.I was then transferred to BT Broadband sales to give my order. That is when the fun started, the very nice lady was obviously reading from the availibity check text,so I asked her if her dept had been briefed on the statement from Openreach regarding proccessing of manual orders from Kingswells
she said she had not heard about that. I told her I would leave it for the moment.
What am I to do next? |

| Tried Sky this afternoon,no joy there, they are using BT availability checker and have no knowledge of Openreach briefings.
I am of the opinion that orders are not going to be successful until the automated
ordering system is in place.|I cannot see these IT based call centres using bits of
paper. |

| If you are ordering from BT and having problems then email this address
broadbandquestions@bt.com
I emailed them and a nice lady said she couldn't help but she knew someone who could. About an hour later I got a call from a guy who knew what he was talking about and knew our situation. He even gave me his personal number which I obviously can't give out. he went through my order and checked all the correct bits were in place and that there were notes about the new DSLAMs etc. I was supposed to be 'done' on Thursday but he said it may take a bit longer ( a day or 2) but thats as I have ISDN as well.
This guy is dealing with quite a few requests from our area. He can only deal with BT requests though not other ISPs.
Fingers crossed

| Even though I don't think they deserve my custom, tonight I ordered BT Total broadband online. No messages about incompatible line or engineer survey. Sailed through and activation date set for 30th. |

| Hi thanks for all the replies.
It seems strange that BT's own checkers are still showing broadband as unavailable. Hopefully their systems will be up to date in the next short while and we'll be able to order in a straight-forward manner.

| I received a message from Ian Shanks of BT via Brian Adam MSP.All BT callhandlers have been rebriefed and their checkers have been updated to show an "amber flag"
indicating that Broadband will "probably" be available at your telephone number. They need to do a software change to amend the flag to "green".
Unfortunately Mr Shanks cannot do anything about other isp's but he assures that they have all been rebriefed. If anyone gets "knocked backed" by BT again, send your telephone number to Brian.Adam.msp@scottish.parliament.uk and he will pursue.
GOOD LUCK! |

| I am not ordering through BT partly on principal and partly because their packages seem to involve call packages which are of no particular benefit to me.
Even if I have to wait longer - whats another few weeks after all this time?
I must once again mention the generous offer of assistance by our MSP - no I'm not his election agent!!! |

| Got an e-mail from Demon last night saying "BT have confirmed your new broadband service will go live on 29/01/2007"
Haven't received the modem from Demon yet.
Anybody know if I can use the BT home hub I received before my order was cancelled in November? |

| Dear Wellsider,
I'm a Wellsider too, but I think we have been lucky in having broadband for over a year. I use the BT Home Hub and it's brilliant, we run two wireless laptops off it, a wireless Xbox 360 and four phones - no problems with anything. We can have everyone using the internet, phone and gaming and the quality is great. In fact the only person who moans is my son, who is after faster speeds still for when he plays with gamseters in the USA and Germany who get 16mb ( but I think that's more to do with his gaming skills rather than the equipment)
Good luck with the broadband. |

| Thanks Claire
I also have a son who is desperate to hook up with his mates on the Xbox.
I know the modem that comes with the Demon package is rather basic.
Was just wondering if I could either connect the home hub to this to use as a router or actually use the Homehub instead of the Demon one - A speedtouch 330.
But I will just actually be delighted to have broadband at all - so heres hoping |
