I would be very interested to hear how people fare when they place an order for broadband in the next few days. I am very dubious as to how prepared the various ISPs are to accept orders from us. However I may be pleasantly surprised!! I am tempted to hold off for at least a couple of weeks to let them get it sorted out.

Hmmmmm Not so easy to order as I thought. Tried online. Won't let me as it says I have an outstanding order and need to call. Checker says my last order was finally cancelled in December. Call BT and their system is down, and just try later. They are not sure when they will be up and running again but should be later today. Anyone had better luck!!!!

Ordered from BT online. Went through okay. Activation date of 25/1/07. Gave me a speed of 6.5mb. Hopefully that is the case. Fingers crossed.

Had to call BT Wholesale to sort this out. Phoning BT orders line or online seems to be just using the automated system which we have all been accepted for and then cancelled with in the past. They are still quoting problems of copper overlay for the lines. BT Wholesale not much help either so far. Still trying to sort it out. They have told me that I have been activated already HA HA.

Well I contacted Pipex this morning by phone and was told that I had an inconmpatible product (TPON) on the line. I went through the saga and explained the leter I received from BT wholesale regarding today but their system will noyt allow me to place the order because of the result their checker gives. However if I subscribe to the internet and calls package at £29.99/month (this includes line rental) then they can process the order - don't ask me why. I declined this and they want me to get in touch with BT Wholesale to ask them to change the result obtained for my phone number. How does one do this? Help!!

I put my order in with Orange this morning online and it did not indicate any problems with incompatible line, etc. The line checker indicated that I would get up to 6.5 mb. They have not given me an exact activation date yet, so fingers crossed I should be up and running with 10 days! Richard

Hi wellsider, You can send an email to broadbandquestions@bt.com and ask them if they change the results returned from the checker. They have helped me in the past with similar requests. Gec.

Thanks Graeme. I was really hoping that after all the trials and tribulations that BT Wholesale would have got their act together but sadly it seems there is one last hurdle to overcome.. At least I still have dial-up....

Tried to order and even said it would have to be via the new manual system. Lady wasn't aware of it and told me I couldn't get broadband as my line is incompatible. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Only thing she could do was to do the automated process and keep her fingers crossed. Great !!!!! So I should be getting my order cancelled on the 25th Jan.

After about 50 phone calls, hope have just about got it sorted. You have to ask provider to get a manual override for provision into BT Wholesale. They fill out the form and it goes to BT Wholesale. The computer system just leads them to the old system of saying TPON on line etc etc. You have to push for it, but they do get it eventually.

I am lucky to get a 400Kb connection in Derbeth Grange. I'm still getting 400kb today so no line improvement. I've just mailed my ISP (PlusNet) to to see if I can get an improved connection speed (6mb?). I'll let you know how I get on. Jim

ps - forgot to say. The manual override for provision is a paper form they have to send to BT Wholesale so I am told - not a computer form filled in online.

After e-mailing the address given by Graeme (thanks again) I received a phone call from BT Retail (the ISP)reiterating what Maddie had said. Unless the ISP completes a written manual request - also known as a CRF - your odrer will be rejected. The BT guy was very helpful and stated that any ISP has the facility to place an order in this way. It just means they have to do some paperwork. Like Rich I had contacted Orange prior to receiving this info and apparently my order had been accepted. I contacted them and lo and behold my registration had not been processed due to an incompatible service on the line. I explained about the manual ordering process and they are going to check up today and get back to me. By the way Pipex told me that they do not have the facility to do a manual order

Just got off the phone from Tiscali, who "don't do manual orders", i.e. they choose not to. I told them this probably meant that I would be going with someone who does choose to do manual orders, but I can't be bothered changing my e-mail address so will have to get my line checker result updated....

Semi good news for Talk Talk customers. I sent a big email to the support team today which included a copy of all the letters and info we have received from BT Openreach. I immediately got a reply and was told to contact their Technical Support Dept on 0871 226 7146. Amazingly I spoke to a very helpful chap who was not in India ? He asked me to forward all the information I had to his personal work email address, and even offered to phone me back ?? So at the moment I am mildly optimistic, well best service I have had so far !! Having read some of the other posts, I can't believe even BT do not know what the other hand is doing. So much for updating ISP’s !!! Will keep you all informed how I get on ?

I emailed Brian Adam MSP to find out from his contact at BT what is going on,he sent me the response from Ian Shanks of BT, apparently 24 orders have been processed from Kingswells today from various ISP's including BT,but he was concerned that there were some people had had a negative response from BTBroadband. He will have a word with someone in BT retail. I will try again at the end of the week.

For those 24 orders there must be dozens that have failed.....was there any indication of when this mess will be sorted?

Just used the BT sites checker - this is the result I get now.... Check availability - results Note: If you have already placed an order for Broadband and now wish to change to a new supplier, then you will need to cancel the existing order with your service provider or your new request will be rejected. Indicates my order has been placed - but I am sure I got the same message when I jumped the gun and tried to order before Xmas - I hope they did a manual order!!!

Re Talk Talk My hopes were dashed. I have phoned several times and they just haven't got a clue what I am talking about. All I get is 'You have TPON' on your line. Aghhhhhhhhhhhh I am not giving up yet, so I will get back to you. P.S. Had a phonecall from BT last night in response to trying to get the TPON tag taken off my line. MR Bt states that all the ISP's definately have a CRF procedure and this must be followed to get an order placed manually.
