So fed up (like many others) with countless BT orders being told "yes you can definately get broadband" only to have the order cancelled. They never actually tell you though! I decided to try Virgin and was given an activation date of last Tuesday. This time it wasn't cancelled but instead ....... "Unfortunately, there'’s going to be a slight delay in delivering your broadband service as further BT engineering work required" Still waiting, like many others, getting used to it. I did somehow manage to actually speak to the department within BT who supposedly handle the connections. They are still advising, from the horses mouth, that we will not get broadband here as "we" have the wrong kind of cable! I suggested that they read their own press release and get up to date!! Amazing! At least Virgin are keeping me constantly updated. Good luck everyone and happy Christmas!

Just got this e-mail from Brian Adam our MSP - rather disappointing to put it mildly!! Please find below some more bad news and copies of some of the email exchanges between me and BT Ian That is very disappointing news, what is the state of play on the 28 days consultation period? Is the clock running or not? I would like to visit the sites at a mutually convenient time. If you are planning a letter to Kingswells from BT Openreach which streets do you intend to contact? This further delay will do nothing for the credibility of your company and I regret it may well influence the view that I will take of further statements on this and future issues . Brian There has been a slight hitch -they have found something wrong with the order handling process - when an order comes in from the area of Kingswells served by the street cabinets the order should be routed through to a manual process ( if it goes through the normal process it will be rejected) - Unfortunately the diversion to the manual process isn't working. We have software people looking at this now - hopefully it won't take long to sort but until it is fixed we cannot give the ISPs and the customers a date when they can start putting orders into the system. Our guys are going to keep me posted and I'll keep you informed. once we have a date a letter will be sent out from Openreach to the people in Kingswells. Yours sincerely, Brian Adam MSP for Aberdeen North

There was a lot of activity round the Green cabinets between Concraig Gds and park yesterday. a few guys in yellow jackets scratching their heads and one lit up a fag so I guess it must have been serious.

I also received an update from Mr Adam at least he is keeping us informed I did post the following response and a copy to OFCOM , yes I am really £75 per quarter compared about £35 two years ago all those fancy web site designed for those with BB take some increased time to load. Dear Mr Adam Thank you for the update. As expected I am disappointed but not surprised at the further delay. Having just received my BT phone bill my dial up charges to the ISP amount to £75 for the quarter , compare this to a tiscali broadband connection of £45 a quarter then it does not take much calculation that BT are £120 per annum better of keeping my line on a dial up only connection. Multiply this scenario by the few hundred households in Kingswells and it is clear to see that BT have no incentive to getting a move on. Perhaps if the regulator were to fine BT or order reductions in the affected households then this may prompt quicker action.

Yes georgem I too was being ripped off by bt for years. Shop around there are plenty of isp's out there with better deals. I now do not even pay my line rental to them and if everyone else does the same they might do something about it. "it's good to talk" as long as it not on a bt line.

Considering that Bob Downes stated in November that the first orders would be processed manually I would have thought that some kind of trial order to test the systems might have been done - seems like BT stumble from one cock-up to the next with no planning at all. I have a rudimentary knowledge of software but surely this change should not take more than a few days to implement. And instead of informing everybody by post -another time wasting exercise - heres an innovative idea - why not put the news on their website!!!!

I too had an activation date of 8/12/2006. Needless to say it didnt happen. When I phoned BT today I expected to be told that my order had been cancelled but when the girl contacted wholesale she came back and said that there was a system fault "at the exchange" which should be resolved later today. Maybe just a standard response but different from the usual "BB is not available" message. Just wondering if Maddie had the same result and/or response.

Hi folks Wellsider/Kaz - sorry so long to get back to you. Been sunning it up on a last minute holiday and just got back. No broadband surprise surprise and have been told that order not cancelled, just a problem linking up and it will happen any day. Waiting for that all important phone call from them to see what happens now. I guess it must be the glitch coming through.
