| I wanted to post this from the BT website dated 17th April.
Broadband blooms in Aberdeenshire
Demand for broadband among the strongest in the UK
SURFERS in Aberdeen and the surrounding countryside are switching on to broadband faster than almost any other part of the UK.
Figures released today by BT reveal that the local authority areas of Aberdeenshire and the City of Aberdeen are second and third in a top ten league table of ADSL broadband take-up in counties around the UK, pipped only by Buckinghamshire.
The two areas are among a handful where more than four out of 10 businesses and households are now using the high-speed service. Uptake in Aberdeenshire has reached 40.4 per cent while Aberdeen is hot on its heels at 40.2 per cent. The UK national average is 29.1 per cent. Across the two areas, more than 90,000 homes and businesses are now using ADSL broadband (47,000 in the city and 43,000 in Aberdeenshire).
Brendan Dick, general manager for BT Scotland, said: “Broadband growth in Aberdeen and the surrounding area of Aberdeenshire is quite simply phenomenal. Between them the two areas have consistently been among the leaders in the UK in terms of broadband adoption, which emphasises the innovative nature of local people and businesses.
“The figures suggest broadband is making a major contribution to the economic success of Aberdeenshire, as businesses find new markets and achieve more efficient ways of working, whilst households are capitalising on the almost limitless abilities of the internet for education, entertainment and commercial purposes.”
He concluded: “However there is still a great deal of work to be done to make sure no-one misses out. We are making good progress with our trial to overcome network limitations in Kingswells and are currently in discussions to take that forward. Generally, we believe around 0.2 per cent of lines served by broadband enabled exchanges in Scotland cannot currently access the technology. While relatively few customers are affected, we completely understand their frustrations and we are working, along with others, to find solutions to these obstacles.”

| This being the case, Aberdeen + Shire should be first in line when they roll out ADSL2.
What's to bet Aberdeen + Shire get ADSL2 last after Glasgow, Edinburgh and the rest of England?
