| Speak for myself and maybe some of the other Kingswells REsidents... Has anyone noticed the amount of Kids Hanging about the Shops from about 17.30 onwards in an evening.. throwing litter about and generally being anti-Social - They seem to hang about the Co-op - why doesnt the manager there tell them to GET LOST... Also see them kicking their balls off the community centre... |

| I was in the CO-OP around 7pm last week. There was one young girl on the till and a gaggle of girls lingering around the door. Two 'youths' came in wandered around the area where the booze is kept then walked out again ! the assistant was obviously suspicious of them but whats she supposed to do on her own ? I think the management need to get a grip. The only threat to my personal safety was when I left the shop as a black hatchback whizzed along the car park and screeched to a halt at the end.
I shall do my best to avoid this area in the evenings from now on.

| Surely the shop staff are only responsible for inside their premises, not policing the outer areas.(And if they are a problem, who's kids are they anyway.)
Yess , there are kids hanging about but I don't see them as a particular problem. Ask them to move aside so you can get past etc and generally they are polite and compliant. Did we not all have soemwhere WE hung out when we were kids. (And we probably still got disapproving looks from local adults.) Lighten up and let them be young. |

| some people have small memories on here, myself and my wife often go to the shop in the evenings, while there may be a gathering of kids ,they never hurl abuse or are impolite, and so what they are kicking there ball against the community centre, did you not do that as a kid or are you one of the silver spoon brigade.as much a nice area Kingswells is there is nowt for kids to do in the dark evenings, they could really be done with a sports hall , gym etc, along the lines of a Cannons/Bannatynes health club, this is just my honest opinion |

| I'd say the shop staff and in particular the management have to look at the security as it is more than problematic now.
Only the other night I went to pick up some milk at 9.45pm to find 6 'youths' sitting around on the floor in the magazine aisle reading newspapers as though they were in their living rooms. I literally had to step over them. Presumably this was because it was raining outside (poor dears). The girl on the till didn't look much older than 16 and couldn't care less.
The other week whilst at the till and being the only customer, a 'youth' came in, grabbed a packet of biscuits and ran out. The 2 male members of staff chased him down the road leaving me alone in the store! Had I wanted to, I could've ran off with biscuits myself!
It all seems a shambles and it won't be long before someone is hurt. Not what I'd expect in Kingswells. |

| Susan,
Sorry but if I don't say it someone else will but
that just ' takes the biscuit' !
I suppose we are lucky that our 'youths' sit down and read the paper rather than smashing things up as would happen in some other areas. |

I agree with you that the majority of the kids hanging around the shops are quite well behaved and even more strongly that there is a severe lack of facilities for all ages (in my opinion a massive opportunity was lost due to the opposition to the AFC Stadium project mainly due to the community council).
I reckon if you think it is bad now wait ten years until all the toddlers have become teenagers.
Addressing one of your points Susan I have witnessed at least 2 of the young girls who work in the shop being verbally abused for refusing to serve Alcohol or Cigarettes to these youths.
I had my four year old grand-daughter with me on one occasion and asked the youth to mind his language .
Needless to say I was told to "f" off.
Im not surprised the young lass showed no interest in confronting them - but then again as an adult Susan - why didn't you?
This "anything for a quiet life" mentality is fine until it directly affects you - sadly by that time it may be too late to do anything about it. |

| I didn't do anything, probably for the same reasons the assistant didn't. I really didn't think it would do any good. Whilst I don't frighten easily I'm smart enough to know that 6 youngsters are not going to listen to 1 humble shopper like me.
I really just think the girl shouldn't have been left alone in the shop, there should be more presence from the staff and management, thats the way we feel.
It is sadly the case that we do keep quiet for an easy life, mostly because of fear. A very close member of my family was beaten up by a crowd of girls outside snappy tomato pizza. The staff looked out the windows and merely watched.
A little police presence wouldn't hurt from time to time, in any area of Aberdeen, I'd say. |

| I Take Everyone's point.... but there is a big grass area to go play football on.... And the community centre isnt there to be wrecked by footballs.... and make people not want to go to the shops area at night time.
There should be a police presence at least a couple of nights a week - even if its just a comminity warden.... just to make sure people are behaving themselves.
Yes we were all kids once... but our Youth culture is slightly different to that of today! |

| I can't believe people are making excuses for the kids that there is nothing to do. That excuse can be used if they are living in the country but Kingswells is served by a good bus service and Aberdeen has everything you could ever want to do.
It's a case of getting off yer butt and going to find it. There's no excuses |

| Susan Marcyboy and Pando all express valid points but I think if this anti-social behaviour is nipped in the bud by the police and the kids are shown they wont get away with it I think it would encourage them to pursue these other activities.
But something has to be done soon. |

| It's almost as if teen boredom masks common sense for right & wrong and they think vandalism and being nasty and underage drinking is part of being a teenager.
It definitely would be an idea to get them off the streets by having a youth centre where they can go, maybe for a small fee (parents would rather pay a small fee rather than have their child with a jail sentence or an asbo I'm sure) and just meet similar teens who are bored and where they can also have talks on intolerable behaviour.
Call me naive, but if nobody tries, then nobody will ever know.
And it'll stop me from having a group of boys standing beside my car after I refuse to buy them alcohol! |

| Kingswells Youth Group has reached crisis point because of a lack of adult volunteers to support the two Youth Workers. The group has recently lost some volunteers. As this group has been such a success, it will be a huge disappointment if it has to close because of a lack of adult volunteers.
These young people are desperate to keep the club going so if anyone can spare a couple of hours on occasional Wednesday nights –please contact Linda Press at linda@press24.wanadoo.co.uk or just pop down and see the Youth Workers at Fairley Road Old School Building 7.00 - 9.30 pm. You will be made most welcome. |

| To those with a "they are just kids" mentality please take a look at the crime bulletin on the front page.
Just because you may be better off financially doesn't mean you are automatically a good and responsible ctizen - let alone parent!!
It may be that the arrogant demeanour of these types may be rubbing off on their kids - heaven help us... |

| Well said Andy
The common misconception is that these kids are outsiders - undoubtedly from nearby council estates - they are not - they are the kids of the many "wannabe snobs" who sadly live in the village.
Next step is cars being vandalised - unfortunately the proliferation of company cars will probably mean it is regarded as a minor inconvenience by many.... |

| I think all this is a storm in a tea cup.
Compared to Westhill, Cove Bay, Portlethen and parts of Bridge of Don we have a very minor teeny yob 'problem'.

| Saxon wrote (another thread)Plus don't you think other people have to work and live their lives ?
You just carry on working and living your life and we will do what we can to improve our environment.
Saxon, it appears that if it does not affect you, its not an issue.???
Interesting that you are comparing Kingswells to other areas, can I ask how you have managed to do this?

| Andy I haved lived in 3 of the other 4 areas.
As for anti-social / illegal / daft behaviour aren't adults more guilty of this than our Children in Kingswells ?
1/ Drive at 30mph (or below) how long does it take before another car zooms up to your bumper?
2/ Driving while speaking on a hand held mobile - I see this every other day in Kingswells.
3/ Washing your car / gardening, its boring, so lets put the radio on so the whole street can hear.
4/ Postage stamp size lawn ? lets buy a B&Q petrol mower and vibrate the whole street.
I'm not saying that youth disorder is excusable just lets put it in perspective and not think that all adults are perfect citizens to.
