| Following on from some of the recent observations of people speeding, how about a name and shame scheme, where you list as much of the following as possible:
Registration
Make/Colour of car
Driver type (mother with kids, boy racer etc.)
Date/time/conditions
Location
Any kids walking/playing near by
Your estimate of the speed
Now obviously the estimate of speed is very subjective, so a few things I think should be remembered:
It's harder to judge the speed of someone coming towards you in a car.
The same speed seems faster in the dark.
Equally, feel free to say if you didn't see anyone speeding - I was out last evening going to the shops and did not see anyone speeding.
I'm not suggesting giving names/addresses as I think that could be verging on the illegal...(although if anyone knows otherwise?) |

| I admit the system is entirely open to abuse. I am relying on people being able to tell when someone is speeding (for example if you are doing 30 mph and someone is pulling away from you at a rate of knots) - we're not really talking about being able to gauge 35 mph here.
If someone was posted who doesn't speed either
a) come on here and defend it (and the administators would possibly be able to remove the orginal post anyway...?)
b) they don't check Kingswells.com so the damage is somewhat limited.
I'm trusting to the fact that most people are decent and honest. If someone really wants to get at someone else I'm sure they are creative enough to think of a better way than saying "ooh, so-and-so speeds".
I think there is a benefit to reporting sightings though - for example, the woman in the silver mazda (if memory serves from the bad hair day thread) treating Kingswells as Silverstone is a danger to others. If through frequent postings of the same cars speeding we start to realise that certain cars are likely to be going too fast, we will take more care around them. Granted a completely unregulated forum is not the best location to host this. Maybe there is scope for moving to the board where you have to be a registered user (although where there is any real accountability with this I don't know, this is probably open to abuse too).
You raise a valid and genuine concern and this is a reason we should not be putting names and addresses on this. |

| I would agree with the 'name and shame' scheme, although I have my doubts about putting specific details of the car's reg etc.
One can be reasonably 'damning' without posting personal details, which may breach privacy laws etc.etc.

| There is one sure thing - if you don't report crime then no action will be taken.
If someone is driving dangerously and you quote the car reg the police will visit and issue a warning. You are probably correct - no investigation.
I spoke to Richard (the local bobby). He will be out with his 'gun' in the next few weeks depending on shifts.

| I sincerely hope 'Ian the bobby' chooses evening rush hour to some gun work.
The last few nights have been terrible.
As soon as people travelling from Dyce see the lights backed up,the indicators go on and they take a shortcut through the village.
They either accelerate away from you,or they drive two inches from your bumper.
When the lights aren't busy, the problem reduces significantly.
Maybe we need some 'entrapment'.
Make the lights busy and catch them all at will !

| NO NO NO not speed bumps. If you suffer with any form of chronic pain (back, joints whatever) you'll understand why. And no matter what the executive say even if you approach them at 1 m.p.h. it still hurts like hell. Read link below.

| If your back hurts because of going over speed bumps then you are clearly driving too fast.
Therefor any argument for removing them becuase of this is null and void |

| What is the point - if the Evening Express/Press and Journal didnt do a cover on it the other week - nobody would have said a thing... I didnt even know they were doing speed trials in the area anyways.... Perhaps they should put the money and resources into dualing the stretch of road between the roundabout on the A944 and the A90 Northbound at Marshall Trailers !!! That would make much more sense!! Not as if the land isnt there just now to do it !!!! |
