| Taking a cue from bad hair day lets start a new thread - why Kingswells is good and why we like to live here!
It has a good school
It's close to town
It's a central location - it's easy to get around and about Aberdeen
It has a low crime rate
The people are generally quite friendly
and, it's your turn now...

| Far enough away from state housing to be largely protected from its occupants' acquisitive and destructive habits. |

| Kingswells is about as far away from town as you can get and still be classed as Aberdeen I would hardly call it central
Additionally,
It’s still missing a few important amenities that a housing estate of this size should have.
Including, Adequate shopping outlets, a proper bus service and suitable recreation/leisure centre facilities.
If a city bypass and a football stadium will stimulate this much needed development then bring it on.

| Steady on,you'll upset our Community Council by suggesting that Kingswells should be
dragged screaming into the 21st Century.
Yes of course we need all those things, but what we dont need, apparently,is noise from excited people enjoying whatever their doing or watching.

| God forbid we don't want people enjoying themselves in public. This is the very reason we put 42" plasmas on our toilet walls. |

| Good points about Kingswells.
It's vert safe.
Having lived in many large cities and towns in the UK. I would argue Kingswells is a very safe place to live, and probably the safest in Aberdeen. The crime we suffer is almost incidental.
There is the occasional moan about youths causing problems, but nothing on the scale you see in other parts of the UK. And kids will always hang-out together in groups. I bet you all had your favourite haunt?
Explore
There are plenty of places to explore. Young kids love the den in the summer and they roam around the play areas in total safety. There are cycle tracks, great walks and the landscaping is begining to establish itself making the area look good.
Good community
If you make the effort there is a good community spirit. Neighbours are good and look out for each other.
Housing.
There is a good mix of homes for families, couples, singletons and a good mix of prices.
School.
It has a lovely primary school with an excellent playground.
Shops
They provide a good range of goods for those odd items you forget from the major supermarkets, and besides you can now shop on line at Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury so you don't even need to leave the comfort of your home.
It's really a very pleasant place to live and is getting better.
Mrs Sunshine

| What's wrong with Mrs Sunshine focusing on the positive.
I agree with her. It's all to easy to be negative about things and then do nothing to put it right.
Stop fitting the type of maoning , grumpy Aberdonians.

| Oh and I also agree... why would you want to make Kingswells busy when the majority of people have some mode of transport.. Kingswells is much better with it being quiet and peaceful.. just be lazy and order over the internet or just drive to/get the bus to/get a lift to the supermarket. I wouldn't change Kingswells ~ I only work there but still! It's lovely the way it is.. |

| Locations where people are encouraged to congregate in numbers, some of which I mentioned, often coincide with an increase in crime.
Kingswells is already considered to be a large village, housing estate, call it what you will - I really don't care. In spite of which there is insufficient demand to support the "amenities" you are asking for (but don't define.) How do I know this ? Because if a viable market existed it would already be serviced by Adam Smith's butcher, baker or candlestick maker (The Wealth of Nations, Adam Smith 1723-90.) The current facilities have stabilised at a sustainable level. Incidentally it won't be getting any bigger for at least five years because there is a moratorium on further development for that period.
I'm afraid your prejudices rather ruin even the modicum of argument you present. I am neither materialistic nor a member of a clique. In fact, I detest cliques. I am not aware of one 6 bedroom house in Kingswells. If there are any they are in a tiny minority. I do not personally know anyone with four cars or a plasma screen television or a SUV but I cannot imagine what right you or I would have to stop such people spending their own money as they see fit. Indeed there are sound economic reasons for letting them get on with it - consumer spending in the UK represents about 63% of GDP.
By the way, Kingswells already contains a large number of attractive 3 bedroom semi detached houses - members of my family live in two of them - whose owners don't seem to have done much other than contribute to the peacefulness of the area.
Personally, I would strongly object to your driving like a lunatic through Kingswells - with its high proportion of young children - to buy a newspaper. (The lawyers might question the wisdom of openly admitting it.) You aren't forced to drive to the shop, you could walk, as many others do because cold, short journeys are bad for the environment and bad for the engine. If you don't fancy that you can read most of the UK's print media on the Internet free of charge, without going near a car or a shop.
If you don't like the takeway food shops - and those who reject fast food will sympathise with you here - why don't you buy a book and try cooking some of your own. We've been cooking our own "Indian" food now for many years. It may not give the Menzaab anything to worry about but it's tasty and fun.
The common theme running through your post is that every "amenity" needs to be laid on for you. Whereas there are many who delight in the fact that nothing is laid on and it is necessary to improvise solutions to requirements. Kingswells actually has access to some wonderful amenities - the Drove Road, Kingshill Wood, Hazlehead Park, Brimmond Hill to name a few.
Finally, if you really did move to Kingswells in the full knowledge that it has none of the amenities you require, and are now complaining about it, then Aberdeen City has most of the facilities anyone could require. |
