| Help!! - does anyone suffer from extremely noisy central heating, i.e. pipes banging ALL the time? Is there a solution that doesn't involve pulling up the upstairs floorboards - the noise is driving me mad! |

| We had the same problem try :
1/ Bleeding the radiators to get rid of any air.
2/ Turn the pump down ours was at 3 (max), but runs ok at 2 (medium).
Our system is a lot quieter than it was but still not silent.

| We're in Concraig Park. Think it must have been the apprentice plumber who got our house to practice on! I've had a plumber in and he didn't think it was an airlock but we are going to give it a try and 'bleed' the radiators. He (plumber) thought it may be that the pipes under the floorboards are not secured properly and therefore are clanging against the joists, but it seems pretty noisy for that. Mind you, I sometimes can't hear the noise of the clanging central heating pipes for the noise of the creaking floorboards - don't know what's worse - VERY noisy house!! |

| Look on the bright side,
your noisey heating will drown out the sound of all those helicopters that fly in circles over Kingswells ! |

| it's not helicopters it's UFO's.
Thermal expansion is the source of the noise, the lack of supports is not the immediate answer.
Micro bore pipes, metal straps, timber joists, blah, blah, blah....
contact the NHBC for advice. |

| Try getting system power flushed - failing that you will probably find the thermostat on boiler is messed up ...
Get British Gas three Star Cover for 16 quid a month - it will save you a fortune - Try this route first - call them out as many times until they tell u,u need a power flush lol
It worked for me in the end!!! any my system is now 12 year old the same as the rest of the house!!! |

| I can only agree with you on the NHBC.
I don't have much confidence in a "British gas engineer" being able to write, let alone install a fault free heating installation.
They are just a bunch of young lads, just out of their time & depth, running around in nice new vans.
How many times did it take them to inform you that it was broken? or did they just finally agree with you?
Have they revoked your three Star Cover yet? |

| I agree with Kim re the quality control on council houses. A Clerk of Works and Inspectors ensure that Council houses are built to an acceptable standard.
There may well be some good quality private houses, but there is not the same level of third party inspection. There are some shocking examples of poor workmanship around Kingswells. The mentality of the developers seems to be that they will fix some of the faults you find, but it is up to you to find the faults in the first place. Even £300,000 houses are thrown up in a matter of 4-6 weeks.
There is talk elsewhere about the quality of the 10 year guarantee. Even that does not sound good.

| I would not wipe my bottom with the 10 year guarantee !!!
It's run by the builders for the builders & they do not hide this fact.
View the guarantee as similar to a car MOT.
I think we are deviating from the original disscussion |

| This problem is often caused by a build up of crustations on the outer foo foo valve |
