It's great to have shops in a community, however being close to Asda etc puts pressure on them. In the early days of Kingswells, we had a Spar, Butcher (with a chip shop) and a newsagent. All of which closed down and when the new shops were built we got the chemist and co-op. Travelling through Kingswells to/from work (I don't stay in Kingswells), I find it hard to get parked there. The carpark and street is full, yet go into the shops and they are empty. Conclusion... community centre/mother an toddlers. So parking for the shops is really an overspill for the community centre car park??? I for one now, don't bother driving through Kingswells to get some things from the post office/chemist or Shop, it's far easier for people to go to other areas with parking. How many other people are doing this too? I even notice all the disabled spaces are taken up with 4x4s and sports cars for long periods of time by people who aren't even using the shops! no doubt there will be the traditinal backlash from the Kingswells Mafia who think they are living in a perfect world, most likely frowning because an outsider chose to use their shops! end of the day, I don't care - i'll go to shops elewhere I can get parked whilst travelling to/from work!

The vast majority of Kingswells live less than 10 minutes walk from the shops. However, it’s far more fun to fire up your BMW or Mercedes for the 30 second journey to the local shop.

recalling some previous traffic issues - One way system at the shops, a lot of people went the wrong way because it was a short can and one woman in the paper said she would continue to do so. They've changed the system now One street had roundabout markings, yet people still go round the wrong way! Because of the tailbacks caused by the park and ride lights at the top of the hill, a lot of traffic cut through kingswells to miss the lights and come out near the A944 roundabout. All in all, it's safer to travel to the shops in a car than risk the bad drivers that Kingswells seems to suffer from!

Would you please observe the maximum speed limit of 30MPH when driving in Kingswells. Now we have dark evenings and Kids still out playing it is more important than ever to drive carefully.

Here's the backlash you expected. You said "Travelling through Kingswells to/from work (I don't stay in Kingswells)," WTF are you doing ratrunning thru Kingswells? If you ask me that's more dangerous and antisocial than having to park 100m away from a shop.

At last someone has taken time out to vent their frustration over parking and shopping in Kingswells. Doesnt really matter whether they live in Kingswells or not. Fact is the shopping centre {coop, chemist and estate agent} was built before Derbeth,Concraig Park, the majority of Concraig Gds and wellside were built so whoever agreed planning permission for the residential and shopping area did not spend much time on thinking with an increasing population there would be a need for bigger facilties. But then this was the same authority that never thought that bus shelters facing north in Aberdeen might need allround protection from the elements. You may wish to know that the shelters in Kingswells Crescent have now got "half sides" so only one half of you gets soaked!

Parking at the shops is normally a nightmare, hence I tend to walk unless (hanging head in shame) the weather is poor and I take the car. I'm all for supporting local shops but feel I may be tempted to the dark side and travel to Aberdeenshire when the new Tesco finally opens in Westhill for all but the essentials. A community the size of Kingswells deserves a lot more in facilities but with so many options all aorund us we are not going to get them.
