Balgownie transmits at a power output of 40Watts whereas Durris transmits at 500,000 Watts. Kingswells is at the fringes of the reception area for Balgownie - it is meant to serve those areas in the Don Valley which dont have line of sight to Durris. Most of the aerials in Wellside are pointing to Balgownie but are not high gain antennas (especialy if they are the original antennas) - might be worth trying one if your anaogue picture is poor - you wont get freeview or channel 5 though. Balgownie transmits at a power output of 40Watts whereas Durris transmits at 500,000 Watts so its range is accordingly greater. You could try buying an extra high gain Aerial (Maplin do one for around £40) and trying Durris - dont worry if you have trees blocking your path - in general the freeview signal is less susceptible to the effects caused by trees but it does require a decent signal strength. Lastly good luck

I have stayed in wellside Circle for the past nine years and over that time the TV picture has got worse!! Can anyone recommend a company that they have used to fix the problem? Dont want Sky, just want a descent picture, is that too much to ask?

I moved into Concraig gds in December 1997.Stewart Milne built the house and installed an aerial which at the time was directed at Durris transmitter there was virtually no picture,so I contacted Stewart Milne and they arranged for the company who fitted the aerial to call back, they moved the aerial to the other side of the house and directed it to Bridge of balgownie after that I could at least get a picture but not a very good one, very weak. I was advised to install an signal amplifier which plugs into the mains ajacent to the aerial socket in the wall, you take a lead from the aerial socket and connect to the "in" socket on the amplifier and then take another lead from the "out"socket to the tv. The picture is better with the amplifier than without it,but still not perfect. Later I had a second aerial fitted to the mast and used the same procedure for another set elswhere in the house. I put up with a low grade signal until December 2004 when I decided to invest in Skys new Freesat system where you buy the Dish and Digibox and get all the terrestial channels plus a load of other rubbish free. The following year I decided to subscribe to the Sports Channels. I now have two digi boxes serving two sets,I still use the aerials for a third set and recording. I have been trying to talk to various aerial companies recently about what plans they have in place for when the analogue signal is switched off and we all have to have new aerials and digital receiver for sets that are not connected to Sky but they have none. As I understand it,at the moment to get a better reception you would need a very tall mast directed at Durris and a freeview receiver, which is why nearly every house in our part of Kingswells has a Sky dish. A final thought,if you are experiencing double imaging"ghosting" the amplifier will not help. I hope this preamble helps,I sympathise with you because I moved here from a cable tv area in the city centre which of course is now defunct and I was very upset with the bad reception. Good luck Johnny

I will be getting a high gain antenna in the next couple of weeks to see if I can get a sufficiently strong signal. Since I have trees and a hill between me and Durris then if I can get Freeview then I would imagine anyone else in Wellside would too. I will keep you posted.

Thanks for the info. I assumed, maybe wrongly, that as my postcode was not accepted on the Freeview website, it would be a waste of time getting a box. I might just give it a try. Please keep me updated with how you get on with the aerial. Can you tell me where you can get amplifier plugs? thanks

I got amplifiers in John Lewis but I think Maplins at the Haudagin Retail park sells them in fact they sell everything electrical/electronic. Bruce Miller in Union St have a good selection of accessories and they give good advice too.
