| Witnessed on Kingswells Crescent this morning a blue Kia people carrier going so fast it couldn't take a corner without drifting on to the wrong side of the road, then a dark green laguna, driven by a middle aged women, testing the cars 0-60 time.
All this at a time when children are setting off for school.
Whats wrong with these people and when is our policeman going to get his speed gun out and catch them ? |

| Speeding has always been a big problem in Kingswells, the roads are generally seen as a 'safe haven' from the police. In the last five or years I have only seen the police checking drivers speed a handful of times.
The worrying problem is it's not your boy racers and pizza delivery men, it's your every day people travelling to work, taking the kids to school or going to buy a paper from the shop. I hate to admit it, but on rare occasions if I'm late for work I'll go a little faster than normal safe in the knowledge I'm more likely to run into an elephant than a police man!
If they were boy racers, people would say 'they need educating', but it's not. The vast majority of it is the educated people. Where do you go from there? |

| Regardless if your driving in Kingswells or some other area, the speed of the vehicle is down to only one thing - the driver.
I would say that the majority of people have children in Kingswells. The next time they are in the car, just think, would they rather the car that THEIR child ran out in front of them was travelling around 30mph and have time to react to avoid striking THEIR child or the car thats doing 40mph plus and either seriously injures or kills THEIR child.
From the previous post, because the Police are not in the area its OK to speed!!! Just think it could be yours or your neighbours children that could be in the area. |

| Sitting there cocooned in comfort, CD playing, engine almost silent - it really insulates the you from the cares of outside world. At 40 mph whilst you fiddle with the changer or the thephone you hardly feel a thing, maybe hear a dull crump. You might vaguely be aware that something flew over the roof.
This is because, with a mass of 1500 Kgs and travelling at 40 mph, the motor car impacts neatly with the kid's pelvis.
At this point the kid is still whole, all connected up. The energy throws the kid ten feet in the air. Naturally, the kid's pelvis and lower limb structure are fragmented by the forces.
That's if it's a lucky kid, in which case he or she might enjoy a paraplegic existence for the next six decades. After a while they get used to somebody else wiping their bottom because since the bad day they haven't had have the articulation to do it for themselves.
Typically, they dislike the privacy invasion. You can't blame them really.
The unlucky ones are decapitated by the forces of resuming contact with the earth. Nobody ever wipes their bottom again. They just get bagged up and the parents lay wreaths for thirty years.
Sure, if you're a bit late, don't give an instant's thought to whether it matters at all. Just put your foot down. It makes all the difference.

| Bit peeved at this post. I drive a green laguna and am middle aged although I don't drive at school times in the mornings as I don't have children so I am not who you talk about. Someone told me about the post so I came on to see.
Now every time I drive around Kingswells people will think I am who you talk about here. I think this is a bit out of order and this type of post should stop. Who's to say that your speeder is not someone rat running through Kingswells. |

| The green laguna was not 'rat running' because the direction it was travelling wasn't a short cut.
We have been advised in the past that we cannot post reg. numbers so thats why i posted the model and colour.
Lets hope your careful driving sets a good example to the other green laguna. |

| Had a think about it and not quite so peeved now.
I understand what you are trying to do in naming and shaming but you have to think about the other car drivers who will get a bad name for doing nothing.
It does not seem right that the ones doing it can't be named by their reg plates, but everyone driving a certain make and model of car can be named whether they are guilty or not.
I don't see the answer to this one. |

| The only answer is for the police to catch the real offenders.
Sorry for any distress caused to innocent green laguna drivers. |

| Speeding in Kingswells is a major issue with anyone trying to adhere to the 30mph or 20mph speed limits usually finding the car behind virtually in their boot with the driver getting more and more impatient. The demolition of a lampost and bus stop sign in 2 separate incidents in the past couple of months is idicative of the agressive driving.
This coupled with the number of drivers in Kingswells who continually drive with one hand whist using a mobile often with children in the vehicle beggars belief. if this carries on it will sadly end in tradgedy for some local who is mown down when a driver loses control either because of speed or their attention diverted as they chat or text on their mobile.
Finally another area of selfish behaviour. The daily or much more likely hourly abuse of the disabled parking spaces at the shops. Are the villagers incapable of walking an extra 20 metres? It would appear that goodly numbers are not with the blatant abuse of the disabled spaces. The prize idiot must be the driving school instructor - what an example to set. |

| Forgot to mention that I've seen a mum drive off at the shops twice now with two young children in the back of the car. Neither mum nor kids were strapped in. Just as bad as speeding to me. |

| I think that's just "get a life's" point. I've also been logging onto these forums since they began. Every single topic:broadband, speeding, common ground maintainence, under age drinking/vandlaism etc. etc. ad infintum, always ends up as a circular arguement with nothing getting done. It's not negativity its realism versus hopeless optimism. |

| Yes 22, but its a good way to get something off your chest and its good to know that some people agree and it winds up the 'offenders' who think they get away with things because nobody cares. |
