Many people in Kingswells are obsessed with house prices. Many of those people also attend church regularly. Yet Jesus said "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." So does this make those regular churchgoers in Kingswells who monitor their house prices hypocrites?

As an example of creating myth based on misinformation and bad argument, this is down there with the worst of them. Let's take a look. Many people. Fair enough, how many ? Four ? Twelve ? 5,000 ? And they're obsessed, though ? What's obsession ? It's something which continually preoccupies the mind. Classically, to the subordination of rational function. So they can't drive, steal properly, defecate, bathe, eat, fly-tip, walk, fornicate for being obsessed with the price of their little Hacienda. And what are the many of the many obsessed with ? House prices ? Whose house prices ? House prices where ? We are not informed. The many of the many are obsessed with the house prices of the many, somewhere ? Recognise anybody so far ? So far so good, battling bravely on. Now we take that preposterous premise and establish it as carefully argued fact. The many of the many "also attend church regularly". It's not a conclusive counter argument but of a Kingswells population of about 6,000 souls, substantially fewer than a hundred file in for a good saving of a Sunday morning at the local parish church. So there might or might not be even a few who have or have not displayed a single characteristic of an ill defined obsession with price of something, somewhere. On such gems do the masses dedicate their lives and credit cards to car salesmen, property developers, gods, banks, governments and other opportunists. Poor lambs.

If that was a logical analysis, my name is Fanny Adams. The point remains that a significant number of Kingswells residents have an unhealthy fixation (prefer that word to obssession?) with the value of property (all property in Kingswells and in particular their own), and that this is contrary to Jesus's directions. And though I'm sure a great many couldn't care less about this, I have every confidence they eventually will, as their misguided adventure comes crashing round their ears. Bit like the Walls of Jericho.

If Jesus was around to give an opinion on anything I think he would have more important things on his mind than a housing estate in Aberdeen. There are livery stables nearby though ... I'll keep a careful look out for an extra bright star next christmas.

And the point of all this is what exactly ?????? What exactly is wrong with having an interest in the price of the house that we work to pay for???? Churchgoers or not! Progress from BC times has comforts that we work to enjoy whether basic or luxury. Hmm where moths destroy! Does that mean we should only wear mothproof clothes? Rust destroy? Hmm - better not get a car or bike then? And what about that computer in the corner (oh yeah - thats plastic - ok then - but metal used inside - hmm wonder if that counts) Golly gosh - taking the meanings literally sounds like you are recommending we all sleep in caves with no clothes. :msn_hmm:
