| If KCC has Grant Money to spare why can't they purchase some Christmas Lights for Kingswood Drive. I have noticed that places like Dyce and Culter have and think it would be a nice on these gloomy nights! |

| KCC considered this, but the running costs of putting up and taking down of the lights was something that KCC could not commit to year on year. There was also issues of spending money for 2-3 weeks of the year. KCC wanted to try to maximise the benefit the community received from the funding. |

| That's a shame, it would have been nice to have some Christmas lights around the village. |

| That's a real pity! I wonder how Dyce, Westhill and Culter etc fund their Christmas Lights? |

I spoke to the Community Council about the lights and they suggested the cost of the lights would be £300-500 per lamp post decoration and then an additional £80 per lamp post per year to put up and remove them. Westhill put their lights up yesterday and in a matter of hours they were up and switched on, would be interesting to see where they get their funding and who puts the lights up? Might be something for the individual residents associations to consider grouping togher for and increasing each households yearly maintenance fee by £5 to cover the costs?? |

| I'm sure residents would be willing to support some fundraising events to pay for the running costs of the lights. |

I'm sure they would but the problem is getting someone to take responsibility for organising the events and then the lights. |

I see the points raised here. Bear in mind please that Westhill is Aberdeenshire council.
They seem to get all the nice bits that the Kingswells residents don't. E.g. Decent Street lighting, decent roads and paths.
I would put this down to a no go, as the council are too stingy to do this to brighten the place up. They would just rather leave large pot holes, and leaking ponds etc to the residents to tidy up. Remember after all Kingswells is to be seen and not heard - as nobody from Aberdeen City can see us anyways!
Kingswells.... Where is that!
Lets just hope - if the Community Xmas tree goes up this year- it doesn't fall down like Last year ... heaven forbid that someone might have to go pick it up again, and it might cost money...... |

How would people feel about purchasing a fir tree, to be planted where the Christmas Tree sits. I think in the long term it might be a more cost effective option. I think this is a project worth investigating directly with Aberdeen City Council. If there is sufficient support for this idea, Kingswells.com may be willing to contribute to the costs. Regards Claire Burt:satisfied: |

I think planting a tree rather than getting a new one would be a great idea, would save the hassle of having to put it up every year and has to be better for the environment too. |
