can anyone that wants to supports this please do! iam a 15 year old that likes playin football with my mates and we cant because the lights at the playground are turned off. all through winter none of my friends went out to play football because of the lights being off! can anyone help us turn them on because we like playin football untill 10:30pm and when its dark and the lights are off its pretty crap because there is one flood light so the cameras can see when its dark and it isnt substancial enough to see the ball when in play! even though when there is no-one in the acctuall school building its lights are on! but the outside ones arent in the dark nights this turned us to playin football at the front of the shops, around the side of bills wok in and at the front of the community centre. but now we cant even go there now because of new cctv installed meanning the police come out and give us into trouble more often. and if we cant play football then it turns us to the street corners which gets the O.A.P population of kingswells annoyed. (they like moaning at us because they dont really have anything better to do on a week night or at a weekend!) i have been chased by a local O.A.P because we were on the grass near his house! and one of the smaller kids in our circle got grabbed at the colar and got told to piss off because we were playin a game called blue murder which is basically hide and seek to try and get there letter to eventually make a word, and he was hiding near that guys driveway (not on his property) and he did this too him! its about time people should get a life and remember when they were kids because i can almost guaranteen they did excactly the same as we do maybe even worse! we need these lights on because it keeps out of trouble and we are away from all these easy irrated old grannys and grandpas! so basically the young kids all the way through to the adolescents cant have fun no-more thanks to the absoulutely rubbish leadership of this community !!! p.s i think its probs better if someone thts better at leadership take over now because its got to a stage were kingswells is a pethetic boring place none of my friends like kingswells because of this and its all down to the pressure groups in kingswells and its council! thanks sam please write bak with feed back or help or even arguments because they will be answered by me or any other youth thanks ;)

Hi Sam, Is there any way you can edit your post? I was reading it and thinking you had a good point, when all of a sudden it became an attack on the older people of Kingswells and the Community Council. These are the people you need to help you. My suggestion would be to contact the Community Council and see if they can apeak to someone at Aberdeen City Council. Another suggestion would be to contact the Community Centre and find out about playing up at Webster Park. The lights left on all night at school and the Community Centre are security lights. You obviously feel quite strongly about having somewhere to play football. Please don't spoil your chances of getting help by becoming agressive. I think a bit of editing will help your case big time. Good luck.

Sam Please take the advice of "Wellside". Your post came across as very ignorant and immature. A little less time spent playing football and a little longer on your spelling and grammar homework, wouldn't go a miss either!!

hi wellside & And yes i think your right it did become a bit agressive and point to the council and O.A.P's. i just felt strongly about those people at the time because it is them that give us hastle, then we get punished for it! i really dont know how to get into contact with the local council! i understand the point about websterpark but its really far away from everything but the school playground is the centre of the village which is easy to get to for all my friends and i. AND, there was no point at takin a pick at my grammer because the only reason you dont have a fault in yours is because its like three lines. And also your the immature one by picking on a 15 year old! !GROW UP!

Sam, Looks like there are only two lights near the playing surface. The lights were on this afternoon. If they are still on tonight can you checkout to see if the lights make a difference. Ian

Trying to arrange a test with the school to see if the lights will be effective. Some technical issues need to be resolved prior to test. Will keep you advised.

Until a couple of months ago the 13 lights and 4 security lights in the primary school playground stayed on until 12 midnight. There after, the four security lights stayed on all night. Residents who live nearby have had to endure the very frequent thud of ball on goal frame and the rattle of the surrounding metal fence when struck. The accompanying shouting and foul language from people playing football could go on until very late. (WELL PAST AN EASILY IRRATED BED TIME) "SAM" has no respect for OAPs, he has been moved on by the police for playing football in front of the Community Centre. He believes it is others at fault (THAT GIVES HIM HASTLE, AND THEN HE IS PUNISHED AND PICKED ON) despite good advice he can't grasp his behavior is the problem. He has no understanding or concern for residents, who would like some privacy and perhaps some peace and quiet especially after dark. It is now light until 21.00hrs and getting lighter, with summer evenings lengthening. I know of no other Primary School Playground or indeed any Playground which is illuminated till such a late hour. KEEP THE LIGHTS OFF. “SAM” if you want to play football till 23.00hrs when it is Dark! Take your football away from the residential village centre to WEBSTER PARK where the football park is sited. You may be surprised how little (HASTLE) you get.

If this facility were to be provided then it would have to consider the whole community. The 4 security lights are problematic to residents and would not be part of the deal.

The time switch for the lights is currently broken and leaving lights on all night would not be acceptable.

I have looked at the site and the proximity of housing and I must admit I thought there was enough distance between to avoid any problems. Perhaps you could contact Ian Cox or Barrie Buchan on the Community Council to discuss – see link to contact details above.

The first part of the post from IanC wed May07 makes no sense at all. Can he explain better? Glad to know that keeping the lights on all night is not acceptable. This has been the case, on a number of occasions, in the past. I can assure IanC that there is not enough distance between play ground and homes to avoid any problems. Sound travels and can be very disturbing and problematic especially after dark. I prefer to keep the debate public for now, so people know what is going on.

Is a leading member of KCC trying to have 13 playground lights switched on till late to accomodate youths playing football in the centre of the village? KCC objected to Candidate Core Path 43 Posted Sun 10/02/08 under the heading Quality of Live Issues for the People of Kingswells 4.1 Ref is made to "Considerable noise and disruption" being unacceptable. 4.2 Ref "It is important that Kingswells residents do not suffer any more Light Pollution in our village. We wish to retain dark countryside on the north side of our village for balance and do not want any more lit paths" Where is the consistency? Are the residents who live close to the play ground not worthy of the same consideration. LIGHTS OFF They are not required in a primary school playground after 7.00 pm

Thanks to IanC for his comments, I am unable to attend KCC meeting tonight, but I am still anxious to know what changes are proposed for the playground lights. Point 1: CLEAR Point 2: CLEAR I agree and would add, especially those whose Quality of Life is affected Point 3: UNCLEAR The 4 white lights have always stayed on all night. I believe the security lighting on the CCTV poles has to be of a white type light to allow the CCTV operators to distinguish the different colours for recognition purposes. The SON and SOX (street lighting) give a yellow light thus making them unsuitable for CCTV illumination. Unfortunately sound levels are not recorded. Point 4: UNCLEAR If there is a proposal to switch on only 2 lights nearest the goal frame independently. I would be very surprised if this could be accomplished without considerable wiring alterations, and the use of an additional timer. How would this be funded? I am aware of the Housing Complex in Kingswood Mews mentioned by IanC It was designed and built especially for the elderly and disabled. The question is not whether the playground facility should be left unused. It is very well used at present. The question is whether KCC should endeavour to have lights left on, so San and his mates can play football in the Primary School Playground after dark. Alternatively should the youths be encouraged to move somewhere more suitable for there nocturnal activities. It seems to me it is not to much to ask for that the residents who live close by should have some respite after dark. I dont believe the football facilities at Webster Park are used to there full potential. Perhaps the all weather pitch could be made more accessible to Sam and his mates. I understand IanC's personal view but I don't think shouting, screaming and noise can be heard at 3 Corse Avenue. I might be less woried and concerned, if when I read Sam's initial post, I had been impressed by his consideration for others and his understanding attitude. I might be less worried and concerned if the proposed changes were made openly and clearly rather than the confusion at present. What lighting is proposed to stay on? Until what time? Would this be 7 days a week? Would this be summer and winter? Can't see the logic of this proposal in close proximity to sheltered housing. No explanation has been given to "alsoone" regarding light pollution, noise and disturbance anomaly

Can anyone tell me why the Playground light settings have been changed?
I have noticed in the past week the lights come On at 21:00hrs and Off again 21:30hrs. It is not dark and the surrounding street lights do not come on till 22:30hrs

The lights have been set to go off at 21:30 during the winter.

If they come on at 21:00 this is an error. I will contact the school to fix this.

KCC is investigating what needs to be done to make the back panels on the goal posts quieter. One of the panels vibrates when a ball is kicked against the panel. The noise produced is unacceptable to neighbouring housing. KCC hope to resolve this as soon as possible.

Thanks for pointing out the problem.

Recently I have also noted the 13 playground lights on during the early evening.
The switch ON is not constant or time fixed, which would indicate a light sensor for switch ON. This is overriden by a fixed timer OFF at 21:30hrs constant.
The most frustrating thing is IanC has had the lighting settings altered despite protests from nearby residents.
His attitude is very worrying especially when his knowledge of the situation is obviously limited. He refers to a back panel on the goal posts being loose and vibrates when struck. This is also the case for the whole of the surrounding fence and very noisy gates. He ignores the complaint of teens and even younger children shouting obscenities when playing football. I am sure many parents would be horrified if they could hear the language used by some teens and even by some primary school pupils.
I believe residents who live nearby have a human right to some peace in there own garden during the summer evenings, even enjoy the night sky during the winter months.
Lights in a primary school playground are not required until 21:30hrs other more suitable sites exist for playing football when it is dark.
Not very sensible or democratic when a 15year old such as Sam is pandered to. Sam and his mates should be guided to a more suitable site to play football when it is dark.

I wonder if it is good for Kingswells when it seems one person is involved in almost everything.
Where is the diversity of opinions and ideas?

I am only involved with the Community Council - and you are welcome to join us to add to the diversity of opinions and ideas. Come along to the next meeting on Monday 14th June at the community centre at 8pm. KCC is not one person - it is a team who work away for the community.

----------------------------------------------

The school made the decision to allow the lights to come on when it is dark and for them to go off at 21:30. The decision was made taking into consideration the views of all on this forum - a compromise was sought.

During the summer nights the lights make no difference to whether the kids gather or not.

The kids of Kingswells don't want much and this was relatively easy to achieve.

If you have issues with the maintenance of the gates this should be reported to the school.

Language is changing, and swearing is now more common and is now less offensive to many. I don't see that anything can be done about that. What do you suggest?

Where is this place where football can be played in the dark? Not Webster Park - it is booked up.

It appears KCC will be criticised what ever they do.

I have invited local residents to KCC meetings before; but no one made the time to come. Perhaps that is why I am so ignorant of the situation.

See you Monday.

If everyone that received low energy light bulbs from the energy companies use them - it should compensate.

I think any sensible person would prefer the children to play football in an area designed for that purpose rather than 'hanging around' elsewhere.
It seems to me that the complainers on this thread have two choices, live with it or move.
Many people would pay extra for a house that backed on to such a well kept public open space.
